Barrack Obama’s Faith – In his own words. No spin.

Blog.Worship hooked me up with a link to this interview with Barrack Obama. It is an interview done about his spiritual life and beliefs. He talks a bit about sin and hell and other things. The whole interview is there so you don’t have to worry about spin or bias or whatever (which is refreshing).

tough definition of sin, “being out of line with my values” and a pretty obscure commentary on heaven. seems to be a very smart man with a very good grasp on a wide, wide range of information. rather unconvincing, but i’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.

  2. yeah. he definitely didn’t come out of a bible college.

i was “disappointed” in some areas and impressed in others.

the main thing that stuck out was his lack of “religious” language. he spoke in terms that someone with no church background could understand (whether you agree or not).

i do think that it becomes hard for people who have been churched their whole life to relate to the faith of someone who uses a completely different vocabulary.

i’ve noticed that – in working in a church for the past 6 monthes – if you phrase your arguments in religious terms, people tend to jump on board with you. however, if you simply lay everything out there and don’t use “christian-eze” then people tend to be a bit more skeptical of what you’re doing.

    just a thought.

a wise man once said, “if it smells like poop, looks like poop, and tastes like poop, there’s a good chance it’s poop.”

at any rate, if a completely different vocabulary doesn’t possess a sound definition of sin, it’s tough to put the cart before the horse.
